Dear Parents and Guardians,
 
Welcome back to the 2024-2025 school year at Richland School District! We hope this letter finds you well and that you had a restful and enjoyable summer. As we embark on a new academic year, we are excited to see our scholars return to the classrooms, ready to learn and grow. 
 
Our dedicated Richland Staff have worked diligently over the summer to prepare for another successful year. We are committed to providing all our scholars with a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. Our primary goal is to ensure that each child reaches their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally, and we are here to support them every step of the way. 
 
Important Information for the Upcoming School Year: 
 
1. First Day of School:
The first day of school is August 14.  This day will be a minimum day. We look forward to welcoming all our scholars back to campus. Please ensure your child arrives on time and ready to start the day.
 
2. School Hours Minimum Day: (Please visit our website at rsdshafter.org for regular school day hours and click on your school site.) 
 
Our minimum day school hours are the following:
TK-3rd Gates:  7:30 a.m.                                                      7th & 8th Gates:  7:45 a.m.
Instruction begins at 8:05 a.m.                                           Instruction begins at 8:10 a.m.
Instruction ends at 12:40 p.m.                                           Instruction ends at 1:30 p.m.  
 
4th - 6th Gates: 7:30 a.m.
Instruction begins at 8:05 a.m.
Instruction ends at 1:30 p.m.
Please adhere to these times to ensure a smooth start and end to the school day.
 
3. Transportation: 
Bus schedules and routes are available on our website and have been mailed to your home. If you have any questions or concerns regarding transportation, please contact our transportation department at 661-746-8621, Yuriana Torres, Secretary.
 
4. School Supplies: 
The school will provide all school supplies for each grade level.  If you want to purchase a backpack, RSD will host a backpack drive at Dollar General on August 3rd, and a day will be scheduled to disperse shortly after.  
 
5. Communication:  
We believe that open communication between school and home is key to scholar success. Please ensure that your contact information is up-to-date in our system. You can update your information by walking into the office. We will use email, phone calls, and Parent Square to inform you of important events and updates.
 
6. Parent Involvement:  
We highly value the role of parents and guardians in their child’s education. We encourage you to be involved in school activities and volunteer opportunities. Please look for information on our upcoming Back-to-School Night and other events where you can get involved. Your participation is crucial to our school's success.
 
7. Health and Safety: 
The health and safety of our scholars and staff are our top priorities. We will continue to follow all recommended health guidelines and protocols to ensure a safe learning environment. Please remind your child of the importance of handwashing and other hygiene practices. We are here to support you and your child's well-being.
